# Capture

The step that turns an authorisation into an actual claim for the money. At a shop counter authorisation and capture happen together and a merchant never sees them as separate; online they are often split, so that a merchant can authorise at checkout and capture when the goods ship.

## Why it matters to a merchant

For most Singapore counters capture happens automatically at the sale and nobody thinks about it. It becomes visible in exactly the businesses where it should not be automatic — a workshop quoting before work, a hotel holding against a stay, anything where the final amount is not known at the counter. Those merchants need to ask their provider how capture behaves on their setup rather than assuming either answer.
